Here is my journal of recent recovery and medical information on my recovery. Photos and images are linked without a thumbnail since they are so graphic. They are listed at the bottom of the Medical Updates Page. They are not for the weak stomach.
Thursday February 1, 2007 The wound is really healing nicely. Well, as nice as a wound can I suppose. For the most part, it has not been bothering me and has not been bleeding very much at all. Just enough to still need a bandage. The part that is really bothering me are the little bumps that are not healing and those few that are coming up. I have one that is really bothering me and is sore. My sugar levels for the most part are still under the high number the doctor wanted but the fasting level is a little higher consistently. I go have another A1C test in a week or so which will give us a good idea of how well I am doing. My blood pressure averages are down, the January monthly average was 147/84 which is still high but that included the first few weeks when it was really high. The last full week average was 125/78.
Now the thing that is really bothering me the most, is I am having problems with cold hands and cold feet, mostly hands.. and more often my right hand. I have never had cold hands, with the exception of being outside of course with ice, snow, etc.. but I am talking about in the house. I have always been very comfortable with the temp in the house in the mid 60's and even when being outside in 40 and 50 degree temps I never had cold hands or feet. It's not being consistent and I have checked my body temp, sugar levels, bp, etc... and nothing out of the ordinary.. very, very strange. It is keeping me from typing sometimes it's so bothersome. The hands are not changing colors or anything, just cold.. and it doesn't happen when I sleep. Confused on this one... well, that is all for now.
Sunday February 11, 2007 For some reason, a few areas in the scar sections are pulling open to small wounds... unlike the big wound, the small ones are sore especially burning when I first get in the shower. My next visit with the surgeon is 11 days and they will probably be gone by then. I think it's the wound shrinking and my movement pulling the skin/scar tissue causing it to tear. Still having the cold hands on occasion and occasional dizziness feeling. It sure makes it hard to work sometimes, especially on the keyboard.
On to the other areas, My glucose levels are up and down. My fasting levels have gone up just a bit to average 138 but my overall average (includes the fasting and all readings even those after meals which are high) is 122. This is with NO glucose medicines. What I find strange is my noon reading fluctuates even when eating the same foods.. not just a little but one day it will be 110, the next day 88, the day after 140, yet the fasting numbers are always close (130-138). The BP seems to be more consistently in my normal range (mid 130s/80s) In fact, my weekly averages for the last 2 weeks were 129/80 and 134/84. I found an organic cereal with pumpkin seeds that I just love but went back to the store for another box and can't find it so I have not been eating the cereal in the morning this last week but instead eggs and a biscuit with a grapefruit. I also have not been drinking my cayenne pepper mixed drink. I think I will start back on those and try to find that cereal again.
